Why an In-Home Session Might Be the Best Location for Your Engagement Photos

Taken:

(Especially if you’re over the idea of twirling in a field.)

Let’s be honest. Not every couple dreams of their engagement photos being taken in the middle of a forest or on the edge of a cliff.

Sometimes the most meaningful place… is your living room.

Your home is already part of your love story.

It’s where the slow mornings happen. The midnight snacks. The way you curl up on the couch. The record you play too often. That chipped mug you both reach for. Your dog’s favorite corner.

These moments? They deserve to be remembered.

In-home sessions are full of real, human details.

We’re not creating a scene, you’re living it.

Wearing your favorite sweater. Dancing barefoot in the kitchen. Making pancakes. Watering plants. Snuggling under that blanket that’s been through four apartments.

You don’t need a big concept or a trendy location. You just need to be in a space that already holds your energy.

Mini-tip: That shelf you styled, that couch you thrifted, that light that hits your hallway at 9am? All part of the story. All worth photographing.

It’s the most “you” space there is.

When couples ask how to make their wedding and photography experience feel personal, this is one of my favorite suggestions:

Start at home.

There’s nothing cookie-cutter about a session where you get to be your full, unfiltered selves.

And if you’ve poured love into your space (through design, tiny details, color palettes, or the cozy clutter of everyday life) it’s already a visual love letter.

A recent fave session of mine

These two first met over a decade ago in architecture school, where they fell in love early in life. Their journey took them down individual paths—including chapters of long distance—before they eventually found their way back to one another and purchased this home together.

When they first discovered the house, it was overwhelmed by the remnants of the previous owner’s hoarding, but they saw past it. With their shared eye for design and years of architectural training, they poured their knowledge—and hearts—into bringing it back to life.

Every corner of this home reflects their thoughtful attention and gentle love. It’s truly a work of art, and I felt so grateful to be welcomed into their space to capture them in a place that couldn’t feel more them.

They spent the session doing a few of their favourite things: sharing coffee, drawing single-line portraits of eachother, reading side by side, and snuggling with their beloved cat.

This session is one of my all-time favourites because it feels so personal and unique. No one else could have created this. No one else could have been this.

If you have a home you love that you’d like to be captured in, send me a message and we will make it happen!
